About ASL

The official pet food of ASL
Founded in 1953, the Animal Service League is an all-volunteer organization concerned with the rescue, care and welfare of homeless domestic animals in the Rochester New York area. Cats, dogs, birds and other domestic animals in need of shelter and veterinary help are cared for until they can be restored to their original owners or new homes found. No animal is ever destroyed for lack of a permanent home. The animals are cared for on a temporary basis in our Haven Homes or at our Shelter until they are ready to be placed in a permanent home. When available for adoption, the animals are shown at Adoption Day events held Saturdays at Pittsford Petco on Monroe Avenue and Sundays at Pet Saver Superstore in Greece. This web site and our business line (585) 342-6099 can give you the exact times and locations for these events.

If you are interested in adoption, the process begins with the completion of an adoption application. Once reviewed and approved by an ASL agent, a home visit may be the next step. If all goes well, at the time of adoption, you will sign an adoption agreement. This agreement serves as a protection for both the pet and the new owner. Please note that we do not do same day adoption. There is a 24 hour waiting period which allows us time to review your application and time for you to consider if this is the right animal for you. One of the most important commitments to which the adopter must agree is to have the animal spayed or neutered (if this has not already been done) at the earliest appropriate age. Volunteers are always needed to help with adoption day events, transporting animals, haven homes and obedience training. Donations are most welcome - we can use crates, carriers, blankets, food bowls, toys, food and time!
